A week or two ago, I taught Jannis and Samuele how to play Pass the Pigs. What is Pass the Pigs? Only the coolest travel game ever invented. The game consists of two little pigs that each player rolls for points. The position of the pigs determines your score. For example, the picture below shows a “trotter” and a “snouter.” Trotters are pigs that land on their feet, and count for 5 points (20 for a double trotter). Snouters land on their noses, and are 10 points each, 40 for a double. Other positions include razorbacks (laying on their backs) and leaning jowlers (tilted snouters).
Each player continues to roll the pigs and add up their points until they 1) choose to stop with the points earned, or 2) roll a “pig out.” A pig out is when both pigs land on their sides, with one showing the black dot on its side, and the other not. The pigs go to the next player and the game continues until one player earns a set amount of points (we play to 200.)
When I pulled out the two little pigs and told them I was going to teach them a game, they thought I was crazy. Until they learned… and now the boys love Pass the Pigs! We played it a few nights at dinner, and Samuele admitted to playing one morning before work when he was eating his breakfast. We now keep the game on the kitchen table, for easy access during meals.
