Cinque Terre (2 of 3)

The next morning, we got up and hiked Cinque Terre. We started in Rio Maggiore with the Via Dell'Amore or “Love Walk.”

Unbeknownst to Paul, I had brought an old lock with me to Italy so we could write our names on it and lock it down somewhere. Of course unbeknownst to me, when we were writing our names on it Friday night, Paul knew we’d be engaged when we locked it down! This is popular in a lot of places in Italy, but the Via Dell'Amore is definitely the most popular. People write their names or initials on a lock to signify lasting love.

We were pretty proud.

So, we hiked from Rio Maggiore to Manarola (my favorite view of Cinque Terre), then Manarola to Corniglia.

We spent so much time exploring all of the cities that we kind of ran out of time to hike the rest of the way. We caught a train to Vernazza and went swimming again, then a train to Monterosso to explore that town.

It was a beautiful day! We made it back to Firenze pretty late and super tired. (And excited about updating our facebook statuses and announcing our engagement to all of our friends!)
